Welcome 2010

So, a New Years Recap-

We brought in 2009 with a classic movie marathon! And by classic, I mean 70 year old classics! I know I'm probably weird on this one, but I can't follow half the modern movies because no one's really acting, or speaking, they're just running from the CGI stuff, and sure it's interesting, but I can never remember the plot as soon as the movie is over. I like to remember the plots, I like movies with more talking than running around and screaming and more witty conversation than sex and innuendo.

So, we watched "Bringing up Baby", "His Girl Friday", and a "Philadelphia Story". On the didn't quite make it before it got too late list is "It Happened One Night". Seriously, if you haven't seen any of these, you're missing out, they're some of the greatest movies of all time!

On my list of classics to get from the library the next couple of weeks until shows return-
"The Shop Around the Corner"
"You Can't Take it With You"
"Mr Smith Goes to Washington"
"The Thin Man Series"
"My Man Godfrey"
and "The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer"

Seriously, classics! Screwball Romantic Comedies from the 1940's, the basis of all modern chick flicks without all the smut.
(Not that I'm condemning the smut, I love a good slightly dirty chick flick as much as anyone, just sometimes you need something else)

I was so caught up in enjoying my movies that I didn't even notice it was midnight, we totally missed all the countdowns on TV and suddenly my husband was kissing me and I couldn't figure out why he was kissing me without pausing my movie first! Some loving wife I am!

New Years Day I woke up to some rather sad and surprising news. The older brother of two of our youth group kids had dropped dead without warning at a New Years Eve Party shortly after 1am. He was only 20 years old. The family is obviously in complete shock, so please be praying for them. He was the oldest of 4 kids, a ridiculously smart kid, graduated valedictorian a year early and was now either a Junior or Senior at Cornell University (smart people school in New York State), no one would have seen this coming. There is a prayer service tonight at 6pm, which we'll be attending in support of our youth group kids, so if you could think about it and join us in prayer where you are, every prayer counts.

I can't even imagine being home or with friends celebrating a promising new year and getting a call that your son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, had just died. They have a large local family, which is a huge blessing as they can all grieve together, but still, dead at 20, seriously? Initial cause of death is heart failure, but he didn't have any history, so who knows what will turn out to be the reason. I just can't even imagine the grief, my sister's two years older than he was, I can't imagine losing a sibling at such a young age. Or the fact that his youngest sister is only 13, imagine losing your big brother before you've even gone to highschool.

So sad, please be praying for the DeFisher Family.

I was going to vent about New Years Day with the in-laws, but seriously, that seems petty and shallow in the midst of this.

Have a good last weekend before everything resumes next week.
