My Families Hurricane Adventure

So, my parents and sister survived the hurricane. From what I can gather via my sister's short-typed text messages, the house is fine, the yard is covered with tree branches and the pool overflowed, but the house is still fine and they're just going nuts not having electricity and not knowing when they'll be getting it back. The got lucky though, because of lots of prayer, their house is fine, when right down the street a house was "halved" by a tree. Basically, a really big tree, big enough to weigh enough to completely cut a house in half literally chopped a house in half by falling on it. I can not even imagine the fear of hearing that. They have a golf course down the street from them, and my dad is a golf pro by profession, (though kind of semi retired to teaching only nowadays) and he says the course will be unplayable for quite some time. I'm guessing there are alot of trees down, since it's an older house with really big trees lining the fairways. The destruction is nothing compared to what it could be though, and no lives were lost in their suburb at least, so that's a huge blessing.

The funniest part of this to me is that my grandparents live down the street from them, and my grandpa's basically deaf, though he won't admit it, and somehow slept through the entire thing. My understanding from five minutes on the phone with my mom is that he didn't think it would be as bad as they predicted and just went to bed like normal. When he woke up there wasn't any power and some minor flooding so he got up and drove over to my parents. It's a good thing they just live in the backside of my parents devolopment because the entire city and all outlying counties are in a state of emergency with a no unnecessary travel law in effect. That's my grandpa for you, Mr Invincible if you asked him. :)

So, now they're just waiting out electricity. Which isn't fun when it's 95 degrees. My mom said the first night was killer because of the 90 mph winds and insane amounts of rain and not being able to open windows even. I kept telling her it was just a hot ice storm, which she's used to from living up here most of her life, but she reminded me in an ice storm you can put on extra clothes to get warm, you can only take so many off :). So, I'm still praying for them, for power and easy cleanup, you can pray too if you feel so inclined.
